Best mat I've owned. Don't worry, the smell will fade!Feb 18, 2010
By Miz James 've been practicing yoga seriously for eight years, and have never had a mat I loved more. Between the mats I've personally owned (including two Mandukas) and the mats that have cycled through the yoga studio I have attended for years (including Lululemon and Gaiam among others) I've seen me some mats, and this one is about as perfect as a mat can get.
For starters, it's incredibly durable. One of the reasons I decided to pick one up was that the studio I attend replaced all their mats with Natural Fitness mats last year. These mats get used for several classes a day (people are on them for 6 or more hours a day, every day!) and have been in use at my studio for a year. So far there is no breakdown whatsoever! Unbelievable. The mats we've had in the past would start to shed pieces or develop holes within weeks or months. Not this mat! The studio mats look pretty much like they did when we first got 'em.
Second, the surface is amazingly non-slip, even when your hands get sweaty! There are varying degrees of slip factor to almost any mat, but apparently not this one (unless you're wearing lotion, and then, that's not really the mat). Not even my Manduka (which is also incredibly durable, though not as comfy) is as non-slip as the N.F. mat.
Third, it's very pliable and lightweight, making it easy to lug around and even travel with. It doesn't hold creases after being folded, though I do generally roll mine, the mats at the studio are always folded in piles and never seem to suffer for it, even the one or two that sit on the bottom of the pile for a while.
Now...about the smell. Yeah, the natural rubber is stinky when you first get it. I hung mine outside for a few days, but you could also hang it in a little-used room with good ventilation. It takes a little while, but the smell does fade, and the mat is so worth the wait!
A kickass mat at a decent price. Go for it!
Update: I've had it for a year now, and there is a small amount of wear where I put my hands and feet. Other than that it's holding up great!

My ideal yoga matFeb 21, 2009
By Lorien I love this mat! I'm tall, so the standard length mats don't work so well for me. This is much better. It's really grippy and the extra thickness makes it soft and lets you sink into it a little even though it's rubber. I love the fact that it always lays down flat no matter which side is up. This is a heavy mat, though, so be warned - you will want a good bag to carry it in.
I only wish it had more color choices.

Oooooo that smell!Apr 14, 2008
By Fooch If I could return this mat I would! I agree with other reviews that the thickness of this mat is perfect and it is wonderfully sticky. However the rubber smell is just too much. Since Yoga ia all about "THE BREATH" it is really hard to enjoy your practice with a mat that smells like a car tire showroom. At the end of one of my classes a woman complained of it smelling like tobacco in class. I asked her if it was my mat - she took a whiff and confirmed that it was! I felt so bad! I had read other reviews about letting the mat air out and the smell would dissipate but I have not found that the case even after several DAYS of airing out. It is a shame because the construction of the mat is just great. If you are going to practice by yourself and don't mind the smell of rubber - then this is the mat for you.

Just the right amount of "cush", and the rubber smell DOES go awayMar 09, 2010
By Sue C. I bought this yoga mat after carefully reading through the other reviews on this site. I liked the fact that this mat is made of natural rubber, so no nasty chemicals to breathe in or get onto my skin. This mat is one of the thicker ones available, which I also found appealing (I need a little more "cush" than thinner mats provide). I was a little concerned about the rubber smell, since there was at least one reviewer who gave it a bad review for this reason.
After using it for a few weeks, I must say that I love it. It provides a nice amount of cushioning for excercises where you need to sit or lie down on the floor, yet is firm enough that I feel fine doing the standing/balancing poses.
Yes, it smelled pretty strongly of rubber when I first bought it, but that does go away with time - I bought it in January, and today (March 8) there is almost no smell. You'll want to air it out as much as possible for the first few weeks - I draped mine over my washing machine downstairs when I wasn't using it, and that seemed to help.
Be forewarned that this is a HEAVY mat, you will definitely want a sling or bag to carry it.
The only (very minor) complaint I have is that the end of the mat tends to remain curled if I use it after it has been rolled up for a while. Usually I just put a book or some other weight on that end and it is fine.

Great matApr 05, 2007
By Adam This natural rubber yoga mat is awesome. I bought the thick one because I have bad knees and need more cushion--it is amazing. Great traction. I love it.
