Care Instructions: To best care for this product, please exclusively follow the washing instructions on the label. Fabric softeners should not be used when washing or drying, since softeners often include chemicals that can break down the construction of the material and decrease its absorbency. In addition, take care to avoid direct contact between this product's fabric and chemical acids or bleaches often found in many cosmetics. Certain cosmetics such as facial care products, creams, makeup, and makeup removers contain chemical acids and/or bleaches which can discolor fabric. These chemicals do not dissolve in water and may cling to the fabric when wiped against the skin, leading to a discoloration that appears as spots or splotches. Generally, it's best to use a towel or cloth with white fabric when removing facial creams and similar products from the face. Likewise, discolorations may also occur when attempting to spot-clean stains with bar soap. Certain bar soaps also contain high acidity levels and/or dyes that can discolor fabric. Soft, heavy, good absorption and valueJul 17, 2008
By R. Harvey
"Bow ties are cool!"
My husband and I are towel snobs. We took a chance on these specifically because the price made it a good gamble and so many reviews alluded to the heavy weight of the towels. We're extremely glad we did! We're so pleased with the quality of the bath sheets we'll now be investing in the rest of the sets from Pinzon.
Some important observations about the bath sheets: - the first time you wash/dry them, be prepared to empty the lint trap in your dryer several times. They will NOT dry in a timely manner unless you are diligent about emptying the lint trap several times. We consider this a very minor inconvenience.
- as with any type of towel, the use of liquid fabric softener or more than one dryer sheet is a no-no. That's even more true with these because they are so thick and heavy. Water will shed right off them once dry if you use a liquid fabric softener, and that's assuming you can get them dry in the first place. Fabric softener should not ever be used on towels anyway, but it becomes even more important to remember that with the Pinzon 820 towels. I suspect most negative reviews regarding absorption are a direct result of fabric softener use. We've been able to get away with using a single dryer sheet in with two bath sheets and not have a problem, just to eliminate static electricity, but we generally use a dryer sheet that's already gone through once with a smaller/short load.
- these are HEAVY. Don't discount the reports of their heaviness. For example, I would not advise purchasing these towels for anyone who is elderly or physically lacking in strength. Their weight is really THAT significant. I could actually see someone with physical strength issues struggling to dry themselves off with these towels, so they're probably not a good gift idea for elderly parents and the like.
- the colors in the images for Plum and Platinum are a little more towards the "slate" side of the color spectrum than the images demonstrate. Both are a beautiful shade, but they do have that powdery slate-like hue to them.
Overall, we're very happy with these towels and have no personal complaints with them. Comments in this post reflect things that may be of concern to other buyers - as far as we're concerned, these towels are a 10 out of 10.

How this towel stacks up in my quest for the ultimate towelFeb 21, 2011
By angiev *** See revision at the bottom from Feb 2013. ****
Benefit from my shopping around for the ultimate towel. Here's some comparisons. Each one has different pros and cons...I purchased white towels in each category so I can't comment on color-fastness.
THIS TOWEL...(((Amazon: Pinzon Luxury 820-Gram))) Heavy weight towel. Very well made. Would definitely last a long time. The cloth is very dense. However this towel is not soft. It would probably last the longest out of any of them, but too rough for my taste.
(((Overstock: Luxury 800-Gram Egyptian Cotton))) Tied 1st place for my favorite. Heavy weight, thick, and soft enough. The loops are a little bigger than amazon's pinzon 820 and make it softer than that one. I will buy this one again to account for 3/4 of my towel stock. Even though it is heavy I could still wrap it around my body and my hair.
(((Amazon: Pinzon 800-Gram Rayon Derived from Bamboo))) This towel tied for 1st place for my favorite, but not everyone in my family likes it. It is very heavy weight. It is the softest, silkiest towel I found on my quest. WOW! So silky in fact that some people may not like it, so it will only be part of my stock. It is too silky and heavy to stay wrapped around your body or head. It holds ambient room temperature, which in the winter makes it feel colder than other towels. But it is so soft and heavy it is almost like a blanket. This to me is the most luxurious towel, because I want a heavy, super soft towel.
(((The Company Store: Bamboo/Cotton Towel))) This towel would be a nice compromise for softness versus weight. It is the next softest after amazon's pinzon bamboo. It is the lightest weight out of the bunch. It will stay wrapped around you and won't feel too heavy on your head. Everyone in my family liked this one. However I was looking for a heavier weight towel, so I did not buy these again.
A note on laundry issues. All these towels absorb water well. I didn't find reviews based on laundry issues helpful. These will take longer to dry than thinner towels, however even the heaviest ones didn't take more than 45 minutes for me. If drying is taking too long, I would suggest to make sure you are not overfilling the dryer. Try adding dryer balls (or tennis balls or a dry towel) in with the load. Clean out your lint trap (the one that hooks to the wall). I didn't experience any unusual lint problems. Don't use fabric softener. It puts a slippery coating on the fabric that lessens the towel's ability to absorb water. I have a front load, high efficiency washer and I found that because these towels absorb more water that I had to use the 'extra water' setting and less detergent in order to get all the detergent rinsed out so they weren't scratchy.
*** Revision Feb 2013 **** Above is my original review shortly after purchasing all of these towels. I wanted to come back and add a note to this about how the towels have held up. It has changed my recommendation on first place. My first place is now this towel - (((Amazon: Pinzon Luxury 820-Gram))). Reason... it has held up better than the other towels. Also it seems to have softened a bit with use - maybe the fibers relaxed a bit. Not sure. But this towel is now nicer than when I first bought it and I continue to reach for this one. This is the bulk of my towel stock now.

One of those items you are so happy you purchased...Oct 06, 2007
By S. Forest King I first purchased a few of these towels in white as workout towels since the price was low, the comments were positive and the previous "microfiber absorbent" towels I had purchased for exercise were so rough they chaffed my skin. These white Pinzon towels were so nice, I purchased full color sets including bath sheets for all four bathrooms and could not be happier. I have since received quite a few comments about how nice the towels are. Towels are one of those items you hesitate to purchase online since you cannot feel them, but I am so happy I did and highly recommend them. As another reviewer stated, they are just as good as those you would find in a five star resort or luxury spa, if not better.

Nice but not colorfastDec 23, 2007
By Declan Mantis These towels feel great, and the color is true to the web site photograph. The only complaint I have is that the color bleaches out really easily. If you use any facial or body cleansers that contain glycolic acid, be sure you rinse them off your skin COMPLETELY before drying off with these towels. I did not, and my Sage-colored towels now have big yellow discolored bleach spots -- and this happened after just one use. I love the towels but will buy white the next time I get them.

Better Than Restoration HardwareOct 25, 2007
By Kimmy These towels are phenomenal. The bath sheet is huge!! In fact all the products in this line are larger than usual towels. Supposedly these are the same towels that Restoration Hardware sells. I checked, they look the same. The Pinzon towels are a little heavier and over 1/2 the cost.
