History of the Region Portugal's major textile factories are located in Guimaraes. Guimaraes is known as the "cradle" or "birth city" of Portugal, since it is home to the castle of Portugal's first king. As one of the country's most historic cities with well-preserved monuments, it is a popular tourist attraction. Among other sites to see are two squares with outdoor cafes and balconied houses, called Praça de Santiago and Largo da Oliveira. At Largo da Oliveira are the old Town Hall and the Church of Nossa Senhora da Oliveira, with a Gothic shrine erected in 1340 standing before it. There are many legends about its origins, but a popular story says it marks the spot where Wamba, elected king of the Visigoths, refused his title and drove a pole into the ground swearing that he would not reign until it blossomed, and it sprouted immediately. Guimaraes hosts an annual 3-day festival of medieval art and costume in the first week of August, which dates from the middle of the 15th century and includes a torchlight procession and a medieval parade. Not only renowned for textiles and historical sites, Guimaraes is in the heart of the "Vinho Verde" region, so called for its locally produced fresh, young "green wines." | | | Features: | |

Matelasse bed skirtNov 21, 2007
By R. Holbrook The bed skirt has a nice diamond, quilted design. It is a bright white. It fit my queen size bed frame perfectly. I do wish that it was just a bit longer. It does not come all the way to the floor. But it does give a very tailored look to a bed.

Great buySep 23, 2010
By girliegirl The measurements were right for my mattress, but when I received it, it was a little too long. So I washed it according to instructions and, as I suspected, it shrunk! The length rose up about 1 1/2 inches almost too much - so be sure to measure before purchasing. It did not draw up in the wrong places and it was not a wrinkled mess. I am very pleased. This bedskirt is thick and it looks very neat and nice.

Just Perfect!Aug 26, 2010
By D. Bauer This bedskirt has it all: beautiful diamond-motif matelasse fabric that is plush and thick, hangs straight and wrinkle free with an inverted box-pleat detail on each side, split corners so it doesn't bunch up around the bed frame. Its crisp and elegant appearance put the finishing touch on all three beds in our family's new bed and breakfast - coordinates perfectly with our 800-thread count herringbone weave white sheets and the various colors of coverlets and duvets that top off each bed. We looked everywhere for bedskirts and found none nicer than these, at any price. We put them on the beds right out of the package after a touch up with the iron. You will not be disappointed!!

Great quality and looksJun 27, 2010
By Virginia L. Welton I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of this product - it is not flimsy, and kind of stands on its own as a skirt should. I did not iron it, but put it on directly from the package, and it looks great. It's a nice shade of ivory - not too much beige, and not white and goes well with the quilt that I have on the bed with a creamy background. I couldn't be happier.
