Description:

Casual and elegant, this Riedel Tyrol Cabernet glass is part of a brand new glass series introduced in Spring 2007. This glass stands on a solid half sphere, offering amazing light reflection, while each bowl is developed for the enjoyment of popular grape varieties and beverages. The Tyrol series is made of lead crystal, which lends itself to a solid base with great stability, while giving it never ending sparkle. The name Tyrol commemorates the Riedel Family's new beginning 50 years ago in Austria in the federal state of Tyrol. These glasses come in a set of 2 and are designed to enhance the enjoyment of full-bodied red wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot.

3Wanted to compare to Riedel "O"Dec 27, 2007
By Dee Sondergard "Wine obsessed"
I've been a fan of the Riedel "O" glass for a number of years and wanted to try this new addition to the "little or no stem" glass. These have more stability than the "O" but are a bit clunky. My jury is still out. First impression is that I'd stick with Riedel "O" glass. Benefit might be that these are less fragile.

5All around winnerApr 28, 2009

I've tried the other traditional stemmed Riedel wine glasses for everyday: expensive and broke very easily, so we were frequently replacing them. And they didn't fit in the dishwasher.

These Tyrol glasses, look great on the table, fit comfortably in the hand, fit neatly in the dishwasher and perform very well. Their solid glass base is similar to my expensive formal Baccarat crystal wine glasses, but at a fraction of the price. What more could you want!

3Everyday stemware, but you still need to be carefulFeb 17, 2009
By A. Wickman
We got some of these after my wife knocked over a wine glass on the table. She didn't break the glass(!), but there was wine all over lots of things that shouldn't have wine on them. She wanted to get something for frequent use that wouldn't be as difficult to knock over.

We looked at these and the "O" glasses, but thought that these would be easier to handle. In those regards, these glasses fill the bill. Nevertheless, in terms of being good for everyday use, they are still quite breakable crystal (versus Tritan or something like that). In my view, the perfect "everyday" stemware would be shaped like this, but would be a little thicker at the top and/or made of a different material.

As for tasting your wine, the pictures show the shape well enough. Versus other shorter stemware (except for the "O"), I feel that it is of adequate/optimum size for a good tasting experience. But I certainly don't fancy myself as an expert on that count.

As we break them (which we already have), I'll purchase more unless a Tritan or similar comes out in this same shape.

5Excellent - Highly RecommendedAug 11, 2008

I was looking for some "everyday" dishwasher safe wine glasses and these are the best. They don't streak, fit easily into the dishwasher and allow big reds to breathe. I still pull out my fancy ones for special occasions but don't like having to hand wash them. These are great, stylish and I highly recommend them. Ordering more as I'd dropped two of them. I'm a clutz!
